The Georgian Townhouse Hotel

I had to wedge a chair behind the door because its lock was broken, which felt especially unsettling as we seemed to be the only guests that night. The stair light timer switched off after literally one second. There wasn't a socket for the kettle either, so I had to unplug a lamp. The room was full of problems: noisy drafts came through the windows, the shower was broken and had only one temperature setting, and the sink was clogged. The sheets and headboard were stained, there was no air conditioning, and a fire door oddly split the room. The place was run-down, dirty and inconvenient. We stayed one night, and it couldn't have been worse. They advertise complimentary parking, but apparently mean street parking. I asked the manager whether a street spot could be found late at night, but got no answer. How did this place get a 3-star rating?

I almost never review a place unless the accommodation is appalling, and this room was disgusting. The carpet and headboard were filthy, the bed smelled, the pillows were hard as rocks, the curtains were broken and the shower door didn't work. There was no air conditioning. I could have managed with an open window, but there were no screens and flies came in. The location was terrible and the service was too. There was no lobby. This place should be demolished and rebuilt; it's a slum, not a hotel. I'm going to dispute the payment. If zero ratings were possible, I'd give it a 3.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and the rooms were very clean. Still, the stay had its problems. On arrival we were assigned room 1, but it wasn't marked, so we wandered up and down looking for it. It was very cold once we got in, and the shower heater didn't work. The lady moved us to another room, but both showers we tried had broken doors, with one hanging off. A shower curtain had been put up instead. We didn't see anyone while we were there, and breakfast seemed to be in the basement, reached through what looked to us like a utility space.

It's a bit far from the city centre, though Liverpool Cathedral, a famous site, is nearby. There's no front desk, and since I hadn't received any check-in information from the host, I had to call after I arrived.
