Chain Runner, Livingston by Marston's Inns

Breakfast was very good, with plenty of everything. It’s self-service and isn’t included in the room price, but it was easy to add on. We also had dessert the night before, and they were accommodating when we both wanted small changes from what was on the menu. We chose the place because it was close to SNEC, and it was easy to find. I’d checked in online, so that part was straightforward. The staff were great, and our room was clean and warm, with the two single beds we’d asked for. For the price, it was excellent value. The pub had lots of menu choices and table service for both drinks and food. Our meal was really good and came quickly. We’d happily stay again.

The room was a little basic, though the location was excellent. The pub attached to the hotel is beautiful and has a cosy, family-like feel. Lots of locals come in, which is always a good sign. I didn’t get to try the restaurant, but it was nearly full at 2 PM on a Monday, so it must be popular. The blonde receptionist and bartender was very kind and friendly.

It’s a decent choice for a short stay if you’re not after anything fancy. The place was reasonably quiet and felt safe, with the basic amenities in place. My room was clean and well maintained, the bed was fine for a good night’s sleep, and the shower had strong water pressure. The stay was comfortable enough, though nothing extraordinary.

The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The pub served excellent food and drinks, and the rooms were big, clean, and warm. The location was excellent too.
