Castle Hotel

That castle view from the room was stunning, and honestly about the only thing that saved the trip. The bathroom was clean and the shower nice and hot, though the shower head could use an adjustable fitting. Still, it wasn't worth £100 a night and I wouldn't recommend it. Room 6 had the worst hotel mattress I've ever come across. It should have been replaced years ago. When we complained, they put another duvet over it, which made no difference. Even though other rooms were available to book, they didn't offer to move us after our first night. There were hairs in the bed and on the towels, and the towels had marks on them when we arrived. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed, and the lamps were dusty. There was nowhere to hang clothes, not even a hook. A wardrobe-looking cupboard was locked, so we couldn't use it. Dinner arrived 40 minutes after we ordered. The pie itself was very good. The cooked breakfast was poor, with bacon that seemed microwaved. Breakfast was included for our remaining two mornings, but we couldn't stomach it again.

Right in the town centre, which was ideal for us. The staff were attentive, friendly and courteous, from the cleaners through to the Manager, and I want to thank them all for what they do. The food was generous and very good. It's an old building, but it's been well maintained. The bedroom furniture suited its age and gave the place a genuine sense of history.

The lamb at Sunday lunch was cooked perfectly, and the vegetables were just right, served on a warm plate. The bar was poorly stocked for a 4⭐️ hotel, though. I also prefer dining without a dog in the restaurant, so I won't be back.

Our room had everything we needed, and both dinner and breakfast were lovely. The place was very clean, the staff welcoming, parking was included, and it was dog friendly. We had a lovely stay at the Castle Hotel, apart from the rally function downstairs. The shouting and table banging carried on all night, right through until 7:30 in the morning.
