Abbey Lodge Hotel

The guest house host could barely speak English, so it was hard to understand them. The site says there’s parking, but it’s just in front of the guest house, off the road, and costs an extra £10. There’s no AC or fan, and the only bit of fresh air comes through a short window with black mould. The room smells damp and feels damp everywhere. The bedding is mismatched, the mattresses are hard, the pillows feel like bricks, and there was dust all under the beds. The furniture looks like it’s from the 60s, with no lamps. I reported it to booking.com because my daughter has asthma, but I still haven’t had a response. The photos look lovely, but the real place was totally shocking. Disappointed is an understatement. Spend your money somewhere else and have a better experience.

The bathroom door wouldn’t shut, and the shower pressure was barely more than a trickle. We even had to get toilet paper from the pub nearby. Just look at the stains on the blanket. Easily the grossest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. If you can afford to stay somewhere else, you should.

Hotels.com listed free parking, but two days after booking, Abbey Lodge messaged to say it would cost £10. When I called, the person who answered was rude and insisted parking wasn’t free and that I had to pay. A terrible experience.

The beds were comfortable, the wifi worked, and the location was handy for the tubes, but I’d pick somewhere else next time. Our rooms were dusty, the shower curtains were dirty, and the shower head wouldn’t stay on its stand. There was only one towel and one cup for two adults. Breakfast was very basic on the first day and dreadful on the second, with only boiled eggs and no coffee, beans, brown bread, or brown sauce. We had to ask for more cutlery and got just one knife for three people. The gentleman didn’t speak English, so communicating was difficult.
