Avonmore Hotel Cartwright Gardens

My family arrived to find there was less accommodation than we’d booked, and the water closet and bathroom were unhealthy, with black mould all over the shower. The hotel wouldn’t give us a full refund, so we had to absorb the extra cost of booking somewhere else for the night. If black mould in the bathroom and no refund for misleading advertising appeal to you, this is the place. Six out of five stars. Strongly recommend avoiding the Avonmore at Cartwright.

The staff were nice, and the location near St. Pancras station was good. But this was the worst room I’ve ever had. I paid €127,- a night for two nights, and next time I’ll spend more. London hotels are expensive, but this one had no breakfast and noisy rooms, and everything was old and worn out. The beds were hard, and the shower... the picture says it all. No more Avonmore for me.

I’ve been coming to London for fifteen years and usually stayed at the Avonmore Hotel. Now I mostly return for nostalgia. Breakfast used to be served in the basement, but they’ve stopped doing that, so there’s no more toast with butter and marmalade. For true Harry Potter fans, the hotel is a must. The tiny rooms give you an authentic Privet Drive experience, and the wooden stairs squeak with every step. It feels just right after a few pints in the pubs down the street. King’s Cross Station is only a two-minute run away, so even if you sleep in, you can still catch the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9 ¾.

I had to cancel a non-refundable booking because I couldn’t travel. The hotel kindly changed my reservation without charging me. Very professional service.
