Elmwood Hotel

I stayed one night for a gig in Islington, and the location was really handy for both St Pancras and Euston stations. The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, and continental breakfast at £5 was reasonable. Staff were fine. I'd been dreading it because of the negative reviews, but it's OK if you keep your expectations in check for a budget stay.

The hotel has WiFi, a small TV room, and its own bathroom, and it's close to Kings Cross and st Pancras. But it was really noisy all night. I could hear people walking upstairs and another room's toulet flushing, along with other sounds. The bathroom sink drains super slowly. For what we paid, I'd definitely prefer a travelodge or premier inn.

The location doesn't make up for this experience. The rooms were small, dusty, and smelled bad, and the hygiene was poor. During our four night stay, they moved us three times, each room worse than the last, and no one helped with our luggage. One shower in an upper bedroom had water filtrations. They blamed us and said we had to pay £1000 for the damage, then shouted and said my husband and I had mental problems. I felt harassed and unsafe. I give one star because I can't give less. Love yourself and DO NOT STAY THERE EVER!

My room was in a basement with no fire exit, so I couldn't see a way out if there were a fire at street level. I can't believe that's legal. It also stunk of sh*t. The TV didn't work and was hanging off the wall, and I could constantly hear water and waste from other rooms. Breakfast was included in my booking, but the man at reception wanted another fiver. After stepping inside the place, there was no way I was going to eat there. This hotel is truly shocking and the worst place I've stayed in my 57 years. Don't use it.
