Flynns Pub & Guesthouse

We were amazed by how smoothly we were looked after on a busy Saturday evening. Ben checked us in quickly and politely even though the bar was packed. My wife and I stayed here last week, and the room was spotless, freshly made up and smelled fresh. It had everything we could need. A brilliant place to drink and stay. If you're passing, try a pint of Guinness, one of the best I've had in London.

The pub has a great mix of lively East London boozer at The Crown and the quieter, intimate 1/2 Crown bar, which is ideal for socialising. Our room was spotless, with a big bathtub that felt like heaven, and the housekeeping team were a lovely, helpful and attentive group. Serena and her team are amazing, with a fantastic landlady and great staff. My family and I stayed at the end of last weekend for a long weekend birthday treat, and it really was a treat. We were welcomed straight away. The young man who checked us in was polite and friendly, and even carried the bags to our room and our daughter's room. We'll definitely be back.

We weren't sure what to expect when we arrived, but the welcome at the pub bar was really friendly and they showed us to our room. We had family room 16 on the top floor. It was immaculate, modern and stylish, and looked recently renovated. The WiFi was excellent too.

I don't consider this guesthouse safe for women travelling alone, and I wouldn't recommend booking in advance. To reach the room, you have to go through a pub, usually full of men drinking. The side entrance is easy to access from outside: I saw someone reach through the gate and turn the handle. The door's entry code is visible to customers sitting outside the bar right beside it, and the door leads into the pub. A pub customer could get upstairs to the rooms, and anyone passing by could open the gate and follow you into the alley. There's no concierge or security. The listing doesn't mention that access is through a working pub. After I explained my safety concerns and said I didn't feel safe, The Crown pub refused to reimburse me on the spot and still hasn't reimbursed me. I had to scramble to find another hotel at 6pm after flying in from abroad.
