Kaya Great Northern Hotel

The rooms were quiet even with the hotel sitting right by a busy travel hub, and I really enjoyed my stay. It's immediately beside King's Cross and St Pancras stations, so very convenient for travelers. The rooms are lovely and well lit, and the place feels posh without being snooty. There's a nice little bar and a delightful restaurant on the second floor.

The Kaya is in a handy spot just off Kings Cross Station, which makes it useful for a quick overnight stop. The hotel was very clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful with their advice. Still, I don't think I'd stay there again. My stay was a 4/10 for a few reasons. In mid-December, with it 6C outside, the room was much too hot and I didn't sleep at all. The air conditioning wasn't really air conditioning, since the lowest setting was 19C, which felt warm. It was basically a warm fan. There were maintenance issues too. The room phone was broken, so I had to call reception on my mobile. The food delivery was okay, but seemed worth about half of what I paid. One built-in bedside light stayed dimly lit all night even after I switched it off at the wall, so I had to cover it with a shirt to keep the room dark.

The facilities were great, but the business lunch wasn't ideal: it was a sandwich, salad, and a shared bowl of chips with no condiments. I was there for a meeting, and the reception staff especially weren't as friendly as I'd expect from a hotel of this caliber. The woman at the desk was quite rude when I came in and made me feel like I wasn't meant to be there. Even after she found my booking, her tone didn't change. Quite disappointing.

The rooms are comfortable and really quiet, and the bar and restaurant are lovely places to unwind with a great atmosphere. Staff were fantastic and went out of their way to help. There are nice touches too, like complimentary homemade cake in the bedroom pantry. It's perfectly placed for an early Eurostar trip, and I'll definitely stay again.
