We stayed overnight for an event at the Barbican, a 15-minute walk away. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby, and public transport links are excellent. The hotel in Shoreditch is modern, comfortable, and very clean, and all the staff were friendly. Our Superior room was a little small but well appointed. Breakfast was good, with some items cooked to order. Great value for an overnight London stay, highly recommended.

The payment issue added to an already frustrating stay. During my second booking, the hotel tried to charge me again for a stay I had paid for, and I had to show proof before they accepted that. At reception, when my key stopped working one evening, I found out there was no reservation for that night. The staff were dismissive when I explained I’d contacted the hotel weeks earlier, and the situation felt very uncomfortable. I’d made two back-to-back bookings for a business trip. About a month before arriving, I emailed to check that I could remain in the same room throughout, and the hotel confirmed that was arranged. They didn’t mention the gap of one night between the reservations, which seems to have been my booking mistake. I understand errors happen, but that was exactly the sort of thing I hoped they’d catch when checking my bookings. For a four-star hotel, I expected clearer communication and a more respectful response, especially for business travellers.

I really enjoyed my stay and would happily come back. The hotel is in a great spot, and the service was both quick and excellent. Breakfast had a generous range of choices. My room felt modern and comfortable, with everything I needed, and the whole place seemed new and well looked after.

The room had a nice view, and we barely heard anything from the street or other rooms. The hotel is in a quiet, convenient area, and the furnishings were new. Everything was very clean. Storage was a problem in our double room. There were just four hangers and no closet, so we ended up putting clothes and other things on the desk. We got only one toothbrush, and there wasn’t much room to hang towels in the bathroom. The heating was centrally controlled, so we had to accept the hotel's temperature setting. On our last day we were really cold, but there was no thermometer and we didn’t raise it since we were nearly leaving.

The self check-out machines weren’t working. I tried them several times while staff watched, but no one offered help. I had to go to the front desk before anyone told me the machines were out of order. I also left an expensive item in my room and called the hotel that same day. They said nothing had been left behind, and I didn’t get a response until I followed up. I know leaving it was my mistake, but it didn’t feel like anyone made a real effort to help find it. Staff also seemed more focused on revenue than guests. On my business trip, I was repeatedly urged to buy breakfast with the explanation that my company would pay anyway. I found that inappropriate and unprofessional. The whole experience was disappointing, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable staying somewhere that didn’t take lost belongings seriously.
