For anyone visiting the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, this hotel is brilliantly situated within walking distance. It’s comfortable, clean, and good value. Jabed seemed to be everywhere, moving from reception to serving food, and was always helpful, courteous, and thorough. Mysha was cooking alone in the kitchen, as far as we could tell, and did a brilliant job. All in all, a great hotel.
The location feels just right, set back from the busiest areas so it’s quiet at night, with a lovely little pub next door and the tube a short walk away. We stayed at Holborn on Saturday 14th February. The room was great and typically superbly clean, and breakfast was well cooked with plenty of choice. The staff were excellent and really friendly. Thanks to everyone, we’ll be back.
The last time we stayed at Premier Inn Red Lion St Holborn London was on 4-5 February 2026, for two nights. We'd been before, but standards seem to have slipped. There was nobody at reception when we arrived, just self check-in machines and a bell. After ringing repeatedly, someone eventually came up from the basement restaurant to check us in. The hotel seemed badly understaffed, with staff covering everything. We chose a superior room, but it felt shabby: there was only a partly used toilet roll, very few towels, and no soap in the empty bathroom dispensers. The room was cold, and we couldn't get the heating to work. There was no room phone, so I went downstairs. A staff member eventually came up and said the heating would take 20 minutes, but it switched off whenever we left, so we kept returning to a cold room. Breakfast was basic. At the restaurant desk, a woman just barked “NAME” instead of greeting us. Staff seemed sullen and uninterested. We've stayed here before, but won't again. Somewhere along the way, they've lost the plot and are letting the hotel name down.
I stayed on 13-14 February 2026 in room 605. The room was clean and nicely presented, and breakfast was very good. Check-in was a pleasant surprise. There were plenty of terminals, but a staff member came out and checked me in personally. I also liked the security: you need your check-in card for the lifts and to get onto the corridor leading to your room.
For an overnight trip to the theatre, this was perfectly fine, as long as you don't expect too much. It's a decent budget hotel, and the room was nice, though ours had a slightly odd smell when we arrived and needed airing. The basement restaurant's breakfast was okay, but food often ran out and we had to wait for more. The location is reasonable too, about 10-15 minutes on foot to Covent Garden, and five minutes to Holborn tube or nearby restaurants. There are nicer Premier Inns in London.
