Radisson Blu Hotel, London Tottenham Court Road

The location is excellent, especially if you’re working nearby, since there are many offices in the area. But at this price, it’s hard to justify a stay if you need proper rest. It feels as though the hotel mainly gets business from people who need to be close by, rather than from the quality of the rooms. Noise was the biggest problem. My room was unbearably loud: a high-pitched, constant sound came from the corridor elevator, and I could hear people in the hallway and neighboring rooms all day and night. I found sleeping very difficult. The windows were poorly insulated too, letting in more noise and making the room feel cold. The old building’s age shows in the comfort. The room felt dated, and the bathroom, especially the toilet, was the worst part and clearly needs renovation. The hotel would benefit from updates, above all proper sound insulation.

The breakfast was good, though the staff cleared the table so quickly I felt I couldn't leave anything there. Inside, the hotel is nicer and fresher than its exterior suggests, and the location is good. The gym isn't much use for strength training, with basically just treadmills.

The bar was a real highlight. The house made drinks were lovely, a nice change from the surrounding London pub scene, and the bartender was great to chat with. The staff put real effort into making sure we were comfortable and our needs were met. The hotel itself could use an update, but it's well placed for the Tube and within walking distance of many major sights. We'll stay again when we're back.

Richard, the night manager, sorted things out when I'd booked the wrong date, which I really appreciated. The refurbished room was wonderful, and the location, service, and room were all great. Breakfast was delicious too. Very happy with the choice, especially for the quality and value.
