The hotel is old, but clean, and the rooms are quite large. Jale was so kind and made me feel at home. I hope I’ve got her name spelled right. She’s the reason I gave the hotel five stars.

I’ve been coming here since 2017, even staying during the Covid lockdown, and I love the staff, especially the manager Jilly. The location is excellent and the rooms are clean, though they really need a full update.

The staff were polite, but the room was in a terrible state. It smelled strongly of cigarettes, the bathroom was dirty, and there was hair in the unclean bath. The hand wash fixture was coming off the wall, as was the sink. The bed was broken and stained along the side. The lift also felt very unsafe to use.

The location and price were the main positives. It’s a five-minute walk from Hyde Park, Oxford Street is just around the corner, and Buckingham Palace is about half an hour on foot. For that location and the room size, it’s cheap. It was quiet at night, I slept decently, and the staff were friendly and polite. We’d stay again, though probably for no more than two nights. There are a lot of things that need work. The place needed a really deep clean, and I didn’t even try the shower because I thought I’d come out dirtier. The kettle smelled so bad it couldn’t be used. There were no sockets by the table, and sockets elsewhere were limited. The TV didn’t work either. The door locks were dodgy. When we arrived, the door to one of our rooms, room 14 in the basement, was open. After reading reviews, we tried to shut it and got it locked, but then couldn’t unlock it. Reception came down and sorted it the next day, but we still didn’t feel safe using it. We had two rooms between us, so I stayed in the other one. We’d worried after reading reviews, but it wasn’t as bad as we’d expected.
