The staff in reception and the restaurant were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Our basic room was clean, even behind and under the beds, and the free breakfast was simple but a nice bonus. The location was great, with the number 24 bus right outside for many popular attractions and the C10 and other buses nearby. After checkout we easily left our luggage somewhere safe and came back for it later. Comfortable and convenient for the price. The décor was dated and the lift was tiny. We were in a front-facing basement room by the restaurant, which didn’t bother us, but noise from upstairs between 10pm and midnight made it hard to sleep. From 7:30am there was more noise outside the room from breakfast and housekeeping. Stairs outside the window led to the front of the hotel. Guests weren’t meant to use them, but housekeeping and other staff did, and we heard conversations, shouting and general disruption there daily. The hotel also isn’t accessible for prams or wheelchairs. We had a double buggy for our two under-twos, and getting in and out was challenging.
The bed was very comfortable, and the TV, heating and air con all worked well. Staff were at the desk 24/7, so my 6.30am checkout was no problem. For a one-night stay, the small single room did what I needed. It was clean apart from a couple of marks on the sheets. There was a big gap under the door, so hallway light and noise came in, but putting a bath towel along the bottom fixed that. Victoria Station was an easy 5-10 minute walk, and the US embassy about 25 minutes on foot.
The location is great, only a ten-minute walk to Victoria, and the simple breakfast was nice enough. Most of the staff were lovely too. But the room was shockingly small, nowhere near worth £80. The plugs stopped working when a fuse blew, and there were huge gaps around the door, so it offered no privacy and you could see through them. I could hear everything going on around the building.
Getting around was easy: I could walk to several places, catch a bus right outside, or reach the Underground after a short walk. Coach and train stations were nearby too. My single room was cozy, comfortable and clean, with a nice bathroom. The AC worked perfectly, and all the listed amenities were there and working. The only downside was painfully slow Wi-Fi. Maybe my room was far from the modem, maybe not, I have no idea. Still, everything else was solid and I enjoyed my stay.
The location put us close to lots of sights, including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, London Eye, Buckingham palace and Royal horse guards. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and made sure we felt comfortable. Our room was clean, nice and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. We had a great time at Sidney hotel during our visit to London and would highly recommend it.
