STG Hotel Oxford Street - formerly St Giles London

We used to return for the location and reasonably decent rooms, but we won’t be back. Our room felt pretty Spartan, with the optional kettle and coffee missing. We arrived at 12.30, expecting not to get in before the standard 3.00pm check-in, but the room was ready. They still wouldn’t let us use it unless we paid £20. Then left luggage was £10 per bag, when you’d expect £1-2 or maybe just a tip. No thanks.

We’d been quite satisfied with the service and location on previous stays, but the ownership and culture seem to have changed for the worse. Luggage storage, which used to be free, now costs 10£ per item. Good luck to families. After housekeeping came during our stay, all our towels were taken, even the ones we’d hung up to reuse, and just two small towels were left, one for drying hands and one on the floor outside the shower. There were two adults in the room. We also had a stomach bug or virus and badly needed bottled water to stay hydrated. Reception said they couldn’t bring any up and we had to go to the lobby vending machine ourselves, risking infecting someone or throwing up on the way. A hotel couldn’t provide that small bit of help? I won’t stay here again.

The concierge on duty that weekend was a lovely, cheerful, helpful man, a 10 out of 10. All the staff were friendly and helpful, contrary to some reviews. He’s an asset to the hotel and deserves a large pay rise. The location was perfect for getting to everything we wanted. We stayed three nights from 16th Jan 2026. The room was clean but small, the shower tray overflowed, and there was no tea tray, which I understand is the new owners’ policy. Communal areas need redecorating and new carpets, as they look tatty in places. The outside also needs a thorough clean and spruce-up, since the hotel’s appearance is quite off-putting. I’d stay again. Criterion, put money into the place and look after your staff, and you’ll appeal to many more customers.

The city-centre location was amazing, close to everything, and booking early meant the price wasn’t too high. My friend and I stayed six nights in a Signature Twin Room with separate beds. The room and bathroom were nice, and the beds comfortable, but there wasn’t enough space for us to open our suitcases properly. It was very clean when we arrived. Each day they tidied the room, took out the rubbish and topped up toilet paper, but as far as we could tell they didn’t vacuum or mop, and the sheets and towels weren’t changed daily. Luckily, we’d brought our own pillowcases and towels. The windows only open a little, so airing out the room was difficult. On our last day, it was helpful that we could leave our bags at the hotel, and the staff were kind. It was enough for a hotel we only used for sleeping.
