For the price, the Swinton Hotel offers good value compared with others nearby. It's also in an excellent spot for getting around the city and reaching public transport. My room was clean and tidy when I arrived, with basic amenities provided. Staff were friendly and accommodating, ready to answer questions or help out.

It was a decent bargain for us, especially as a family travelling for vacations. Being near St Pancras made it a handy base for the night before travel. The hotel is a typical mid London squeeze, with narrow corridors and rooms that could really use more space. Still, for a short overnight stay, the en suite, little separate changing and ironing area, hair dryer, tea and coffee facilities, towels and toiletries were enough. The hair dryer didn't work, but I couldn't complain for one night.

The only thing I could fault was the tiny shower and toilet room. There was enough room otherwise, and it was clean though dated. Staff were faultless. I was told the new owners were renovating the hotel, and I could see some work underway, but it didn't cause any problems.

The price really didn't match what I expected. The room didn't seem very clean: I found two hairs on the floor and, worse, some inside the pillowcases. How could that be missed when they were changed? The bed wasn't very comfortable, and there was moisture on the bathroom ceiling. The bathroom was small but could've been okay, except the shower head was fixed and really inconvenient. The free toiletries were tiny, too. It's a very small hotel, and the narrow corridors with worn, stained flooring aren't welcoming. They offered to clean the room the next day at 2pm, but we were busy and declined. I asked about breakfast and was told it wasn't available, even though it was listed on Booking. The cute garden area in the photos is hard to get to, since you have to go through reception and the hall, so it's not very autonomous.

For London, I don't think you'll find better value. The place was very clean, the bed comfortable, and all the facilities worked. They left fresh coffee and biscuits every day. It was also very quiet for London, and the front of house staff were polite. I felt safe there. The rooms are small and short on basics like hand rails, storage and even a bedside table. The TV didn't work, and there wasn't a lift during the 10 days I was there. They don't have enough hairdryers, but when I asked downstairs, they gave me one.
