The Fielding Hotel

We'd still recommend the place, though the condition of the rooms comes with caveats. Our suite was a good size, with a nice bathroom, and the room was clean, but badly stained carpets and sofa, scratched walls, and threadbare patches in the curtains made it look dirty. It wouldn't take much work to make this a fantastic hotel that we'd happily pay more to stay in. The price is already more than reasonable, the staff were kind and accommodating, and the hotel is tucked away off the main roads in an amazing neighborhood.

We stayed in Flat 1, not the hotel, and it suited us wonderfully. It's an older, quirky place with lots of character, and having cooking facilities in such a great spot was amazing. A few practical things: the shower is in the master bedroom, which seems odd, but it's large enough that water doesn't get into the bedroom. The washer dryer is behind a cupboard door in that room and worked great. There was plenty of powder, so you can set it going while out sightseeing. You probably can't fit two suitcases in the master bedroom, so one could go in the lounge. The bed is a standard double, firm but comfortable, and the heating is great. It was surprisingly quiet, and I slept really well. The toilet is in the hall between the bedroom and lounge, with doors between it and both rooms. If you're using both sofa beds, you may need to move the single chair and rearrange things a little, but it works. The kitchen has a small fridge, dishwasher, microwave, hob, small oven, and most of the cookware you'd need, including frypans and saucepans. The larger dining area can be used for different things. There's a Tesco Extra nearby one way and a Sainsbury Local the other.

We were amazed to be just three minutes from the Royal Opera House, yet on a quiet pedestrian sidewalk off the road with no noise at all. The hotel's in a prime spot for the theatres. Our room had two single beds on two levels, with the bathroom down a few stairs, and everything we needed. The staff at checkout were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We'll definitely stay again when we visit. It's an absolute gem!

There are a lot of stairs and no lift, so anyone with mobility issues may struggle. The staff carried our suitcases to the room, though. We had a clean, comfortable room, and the receptionist was excellent. The location was perfect for our event at the connaught rooms.
