We arrived around noon for Sunday roast and ended up staying seven hours. The food was great, the kids' menu was nice, and the staff looked after us so well. We stumbled across the pub by chance, and I'm glad we did. It's a good spot for a big group, and watching the India/Pakistan cricket match over lunch and a few rounds of drinks was fun.
The bar is nicely done, with imitation foliage covering the ceiling. That might sound naff, but it actually works well. There was sports TV in one area, though it wasn't loud enough to make lunch uncomfortable. I had a lovely burger with great chips, and the menu had plenty to choose from. The staff were polite and friendly. It's at the top end of Tottenham Court road, a handy place for a meal and drink before heading into the theatre district. I don't know what the rooms are like, but the West End is well placed if a ten minute walk to the theatre district suits you.
The trains were the main problem for us. We were above the northern line, and the night trains vibrated the whole building and made for a poor night's sleep. There was also shouting outside at 3am, though I understand that's not the hotel's fault when you're on a high street in London. A private function was meant to end at 12:30am but continued until 2am, which disturbed us too, though that won't happen every time. The staff were lovely and explained everything on arrival, even offering us a free drink we didn't end up having. The room was adequate and clean, the bed comfy, and the bathroom was big and clean but much colder than the room. We stayed one night for the theatre, which was within walking distance. I'd recommend staying, just be aware of the night train noise.
The traditional English breakfast was tasty according to my English boyfriend, though he missed having black pudding. My hash browns, ordered on the side, were extremely overcooked. We still enjoyed the meal and would return. We came to the pub below the hotel in the late morning for breakfast and a few cheeky pints of beer and cider. Service was good, and there was a nice choice of drinks.
I like the venue and location, but I won't be going back. The food was inedible. I'd found it bad the last few times, but tried again tonight. Between the two of us, we couldn't manage more than one bite of any of the three dishes. It was literally the worst food ever, and I wouldn't even give it to my dog. The server Jay was very nice, but that doesn't excuse an £80 bill for two.
