The Royal Foundation Of St Katharine

I chose this place because I had an event at the Troxy, and it was very handy for that. It's a little out of the way if you're focused on central London, but the DLR station right next to the property makes getting around easy. My single room was small, though it had what I needed for one night. Reception staff were really friendly and welcoming. The price felt high for this part of London, so that's the main reason I'm unsure I'd book again.

My parents were there for eight nights and absolutely loved it. They especially enjoyed the food and the calm atmosphere, and the room worked well for them. Limehouse is a lovely, still undiscovered gem. You can walk along the Thames or the canals, or head down to Wapping or Canary Wharf. The train is right nearby, and central London is close. I don't agree with people who call it far, since you have to travel around London wherever you stay. I can't wait for my parents to visit again so we can have afternoon tea!

The breakfast was included and really good, continental rather than a fry-up but very nice. The yurt cafe also does good light meals and drinks during the day. Given the location, it was remarkably quiet, and the bed was great, so I got the good night's sleep I wanted. Limehouse DLR and local buses make getting about easy. I wouldn't hesitate to book again. I liked having no TV in the room.

The rooms were consistently clean, though plain and practical, and the place itself is surprisingly quiet. Plumbing problems seem to crop up regularly, including flooded shower rooms. It feels harder to see the original monastic spirit of hospitality when the prices are now close to what the big London hotel chains charge. Outside the campus, the area feels threatening and horrible, and the transport links aren't great either. It's disappointing that I have to find somewhere else when I need a bed for the night, because St Katherine's has become unaffordable for a humble traveller.
