The location made sleeping nearly impossible. There was constant honking and drunken people outside the window, and no noise cancellation. Inside, sounds carried clearly between rooms, so there was no privacy. The curtains smelled bad and the carpet had unknown stains. The room was incredibly small for two people, and there was no drinking water or warm shower water. Opening the heavy, noisy door was a chore and disturbed people on the floor. The lift rattled on the way up and looked old and worn, as if it might not be safe. Service was awful too. When I checked in, the receptionist called Judy told me my older teen couldn’t have a room key, and I couldn’t move to a better room because “management said no.” I stayed here while work was being done at my house, and it was a terrible experience. Things could be fixed, but the staff attitude made it seem like nobody cared.

I came home with bedbug bites all over, which is pretty gross. The room was like a closet, dated and very unclean. I had a terrible night’s sleep: the pillows were as thin as toilet paper, and every time someone used the lift, I could hear it as if they were in my room.

I stayed for two weeks in a row and the noise made this a bad choice for business. Traffic and loud drinkers were a pain too, though I suppose that’s just London. For a weekend out on the tiles it might be fine, but if you need a proper night’s sleep for work, avoid it. The first week I booked a saver room. It was a depressing little cell, as others have said, and not the cleanest. There was a services cupboard outside that hummed all night, so I didn’t sleep all week. The second week I booked a superior room, which was good in fairness, but the humming was still there, like a bath running all night. The utilities throughout the hotel are clearly noisy.

The room was a bit smaller than usual, though I suppose that’s normal for London. It isn’t one of the newer Travelodges, but it was perfectly adequate and right by the train station. I’d stay again if I needed to.
