The lamb rump and mini lamb pie were delicious, and sitting beside the folk music gathering was great. I’d first visited at lunchtime as a pub and loved it, so I booked dinner for acoustic night. The service was very slow because there weren’t enough staff for the number of customers, but when someone was available, I couldn’t fault them. They were welcoming and very friendly.

The hotel's location is excellent, convenient for most things, and I’d recommend it and stay again. My room was comfortable and clean, and breakfast was good. A friendly waitress explained the options from a decent selection. Check-in came with a very warm welcome. The one thing that needs fixing is Wi-Fi registration: it asks for your date of birth, then makes you scroll back month by month to select the year. I was born in the 60s, so that’s a lot of scrolling.

The food was great, and the staff were incredible. We had a good break, and when a minor issue came up, it was handled professionally. There was a noisy room above us, but that wouldn’t put us off visiting again. The customer care went above and beyond. Parking is available, though it’s first come, first served.

We booked Sunday lunch and enjoyed it very much. My partner’s vegetarian choice had sold out, even though it was only 2.15pm, but they offered him vegetarian sausages instead, which was fine. We stayed at the Angel and Blue Pig for three nights over our anniversary weekend, and had a lovely time. Our Double Deluxe room was cosy, and the bed was so comfortable I had the best night’s sleep. Although it faced the High Street, it was really quiet apart from doves roosting on the roof and an early refuse collection one morning. The building’s age shows in the creaky floors and corridors, imperfect rooms, and wonky door frames, but it all adds to the quirky atmosphere. You can feel the history. We’d most certainly stay again.

The roast was honestly the best I’ve ever had. Tender meat, perfectly cooked vegetables, and the food came out quickly. The service was amazing too, with the waiters often checking on us and clearing the table. I’d definitely visit again if I’m in the area.
