It gave us a place to rest after a day of driving, and the hotel and room were clean with friendly staff. At £70 a night, though, it felt a bit overpriced. The bed was possibly the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept in, and I hardly got any sleep. The pillows were okay and the duvet was nice and warm, but the bottom sheet was too small. There was a kettle, but nothing to make a hot drink with, so it was pretty pointless.

The weather was so extreme and dangerous that I couldn’t make it to the room I’d booked in advance. I asked for a refund or credit to use later, which seemed reasonable in the circumstances, but they refused. I’d advise people not to pay in advance.

It was a very basic room, but at only £70 for the night with insurance, you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t stay here again.

After a six-hour drive with my family, we arrived expecting the friendly staff to make the £50 a night worthwhile. The window looked straight onto a solid brick wall, though we tried not to make too much of that. The sofa bed was horrendous: its thin mattress did nothing to soften the harsh metal frame, which felt like it was punching my spine. I gave up and slept on the floor on that paper-thin mattress, practically feeling the floor all night. Then there were children crying loudly at 3 am, late check-ins, and what I think was scurrying in the walls. The tea was nice, though.

The receptionist was pleasant, and the location is great for an overnight stop between Scotland and London. Still, as an HGV driver, I need a proper bath or shower and a good night’s sleep, and this was the first and last time our company will put us here. The toilet and bath were filthy, there was no shower gel or soap, just one 10 ml shampoo sachet, and the sofa had dubious stains. The TV was hanging off the wall. The bed felt harder than concrete, and both pillows were barely three inches thick. Room 6 looks out over the back of a shop, at an overflowing rubbish bin. They’d probably be better off bulldozing the whole building and rebuilding it.
