Holiday Inn Maidenhead - Windsor

The restaurant was closed at 7pm during my business stay, and the bar was full of Legoland families with screaming kids. Families being there is fine, but business guests should have somewhere decent to eat. I’ve given this hotel plenty of glowing reviews before, but not this time. A week of Legoland promotion over half term seemed to matter more than the regular customers. At the very least, the restaurant should have been open so business guests could dine in a pleasant setting. The two bar staff were trying to handle both food and drinks, and the cost cutting was obvious. My colleagues agree with me. This was really disappointing and badly managed. I won’t return, and neither will any employees from my company.

The staff were nice and breakfast was good, but the room wasn’t very clean and some parts of the hotel are showing wear. A raised corner of carpet on the third floor by the three thirties nearly tripped me up. That needs attention right away. The health club was disappointing too. The pool was too cold for my little one to stay in, and it didn’t look or smell clean. There wasn’t an express checkout, or if there was, it wasn’t obvious.

The rooms were spot on, clean, comfortable and looking new, and the price was good. Breakfast was reasonable too. The main nuisance was noise from people slamming doors and shouting, though I can’t really blame the hotel for that. The coffee machines kept breaking down, and the queues got huge with so many people there. Go early for a better experience.

There was plenty of parking, and the hotel felt clean, well appointed and welcoming. Barbara at reception greeted us courteously, giving us our first taste of the friendly, professional staff. We had a fantastic stopover in a standard room, with a very comfortable bed and only the quiet hum of the air conditioning interrupting the silence. Breakfast offered continental or English choices. My wife and I look forward to visiting again.
