The views from high up in the Malvern Hills were amazing, and the staff made the lunch a great experience. They were friendly, efficient, and attentive, setting a lovely scene at the table. Before the food, we got little amuse-bouches, homemade sourdough, and ampersand butter. There was a choice for all three courses, and everything sounded good. We both went for the game terrine, which was delicious. The roast Herefordshire beef was phenomenal, though I was sorely tempted by the Baked cod with mussel chowder. I finished with the rich, sweet chocolate and orange delice, while the blackberry mouse with pear sorbet looked like a fresh, crisp choice for something lighter. I found this place through a local newspaper article and am so glad I did. I can’t sing CITW's praises enough, and I’m looking forward to trying their other menus. The staff are a credit to the restaurant and made an already great lunch even better.

The Spiced fish was really enjoyable, and the place felt comfortable, clean, and welcoming. The room was warm and clean. Breakfast tasted good, though unfortunately it arrived covered in grease. I’d definitely stay again.

The location and interior were nice, and it looks like it could have great views on a summer evening, which makes the experience a shame. I contacted them about vegan options before booking and was told they’d email me menu items, but nothing came through. I booked anyway because they seemed well intentioned. In the booking notes I mentioned the birthday meal and that a vegetarian and a vegan would be attending. They were both given regular menus without vegetarian or vegan mains or any suggestions. Eventually a waiter mentioned vegan gnocchi, which the vegan guest was excited to order, but a plate of mushrooms arrived with no gnocchi. The waiters and kitchen seemed confused about what was on offer. Four different people served us; they were generally polite, but the service was muddled. The rest of the food looked well presented, but it was style over substance. The pork loin and belly was just a small piece of belly, with no crackling. The triple-cooked chips were soggy instead of crisp, and the fish had soggy skin and bones still in it. Most dishes missed the spot, and there was no effort made for the birthday girl either. It was £300 for five of us, on the pricey side, with no wow moments. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return.

We sat by the window on a beautiful, sunny, clear day, with stunning views. The portions were bigger than I expected, and I struggled to finish, but they gave me tubs to take some home. The food was exceptional, and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. I’d definitely go back.

For my 30th birthday in December, we chose the tasting menu at Cottage in the Woods, at around £100 each. Having had tasting menus elsewhere, this was by far the worst. The food lacked flavour and the atmosphere was disappointing. The venue felt bland and unwelcoming, especially at Christmas, and we were shocked and disappointed. We were seated at the back; our first table wobbled, and after we asked to move, we ended up near the kitchen, which didn’t feel special. My mum had the vegetarian options, and my aunt and I had fish dishes, but none of them tasted good. The bread and first appetizer were the only redeeming parts. With the high price and reputation, the meal was truly underwhelming. The £40 service charge didn’t feel justified. It wasn’t the birthday celebration we’d hoped for, and I won’t recommend it.
