The Lowry Hotel Manchester

The Lowry is right by the river, with only a short walk into Manchester city centre. It was peaceful at night, which you don’t always get in a central hotel. The rooms were larger than most I’ve stayed in, with huge windows, natural light and great views across the river and Manchester skyline. The bed was seriously comfortable, the bathroom sleek and well stocked, and everything clean and looked after. It felt luxurious without going over the top. The spacious, modern lobby was spotless, and the staff greeted us properly. Throughout the stay they were attentive, professional and happy to help. The hotel feels classy without being intimidating, and you can tell the staff take pride in maintaining high standards. It’s not the cheapest option, but for comfort, space and a proper five-star experience in Greater Manchester, The Lowry is worth it. I’d happily return.

We held our nursing reunion in the dining area last Saturday, and it turned out to be the perfect venue. The afternoon tea and light food were excellent quality and there was plenty of it. The table service was particularly good, even while the staff were busy helping other tables. The lovely young man who helped us and took our photos deserves high praise. The room was very good, with a comfortable bed and nice appointments, and breakfast was fantastic value. The staff at breakfast were professional and attentive. We’ve stayed a couple of times and would like to return, but the check-in and checkout problems took away from the experience. At check-in, they couldn’t find our booking in the system for some time, which was exasperating, though these things happen. At checkout, the room charge appeared on the bill even though we’d paid through a third party months earlier. Reception kept thinking I was querying the credit card charge and patiently explaining it, before finally realising the mistake. I also spotted a £5 tip added for room service, on top of a £5 tray charge. We’d already tipped in cash, so it felt presumptuous. The party checking out beside us seemed to be having similar issues. It soured the stay a little.

Breakfast was a highlight, with excellent food, attentive staff and loads of options. Our room was spotless, spacious and beautifully put together, with thoughtful touches and a real sense of luxury. From the moment we arrived, the reception team were warm and friendly, and nothing seemed too much trouble. One of the best hotel stays we’ve ever had at The Lowry. We can’t wait to come back.
