Oliver Cromwell Hotel

I stayed four nights for work (19/10/2025), and aside from the convenient location, I wouldn't recommend this place. The room smelled distinctly damp, and while I could put up with its dated look, the dirt and poor condition were unforgivable. What looked like blood was on the hotel-provided soap bottle, and it wasn't mine. Limescale blocked the shower head so badly that only three dribbles came out. I had to wash in a half-filled bath each day to get clean. The bathroom radiator was caked with dirt that clearly hadn't been cleaned in years.

We'd travelled for hours and it was late, so we stayed, but we were ashamed to be in such a disgusting “hotel.” The place was horrendous, with holes in the ceilings, wet patches and a horrible damp smell. The room was filthy, and the towels were like yellow cardboard instead of white and fluffy. I can't say how gross the whole place was strongly enough. We skipped breakfast because imagining what the kitchen might be like made us feel ill. We couldn't wait for morning so we could leave. I don't know where the people who said it was fine were staying, but trust me, it wasn't room 2 or the main building.

The room photos speak for themselves. The place was freezing cold and absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't let a dog sleep there. We checked in, then checked back out within an hour.

We were given room 52 in The Residence, the same room as the previous unfortunate guest, and our stay was much like theirs. It was filthy throughout, and the net curtains still had all the mould the earlier guest mentioned. We didn't come across any soiled underwear, but didn't open the drawers because we didn't want to put clean clothes in them. I covered the bathroom pull cord with tissue before using it because it was so dirty. Outside our door were remains of a dead bird, weeds, fallen moss and cigarette butts. We stayed three nights, never again. I went down for what they call 'breakfast' on the first day, but it was so disgusting I didn't go back. I think they need to close their doors or get new owners.
