The staff were brilliant, as always. We chose the three courses for £26 menu and every dish was fantastic, piping hot and beautifully presented. We all tried different things and none of us could find a fault. With prices rising, it’s hard to find food of this quality at that price. I can’t fault the place.

The food was excellent, so we’ll certainly come back. We went for breakfast, though my wife’s order came out wrong. They fixed it and removed the drinks from the bill, but it took longer than we’d planned and we were on a tight schedule.

We had a comfortable room and found the staff friendly. The family lunch was excellent, and there was a good choice at breakfast the next day. A relative who had stayed here and now lives in town booked it for us.

After a long day taking calls as a veterinarian, I brought my daughter to the Advocate for dinner. We were seated, then told at 20:10 that they wouldn’t serve us because the restaurant wasn’t busy on Thursday 22nd and they wanted to get it ready for the next day. They were closing early. We had to leave and find somewhere else to eat. The reception was shocking and rude, and I won’t be going back anytime soon.

I had the best lasagne I’ve ever eaten, followed by a beautifully made crème brûlée. The atmosphere at the advocate Arms Hotel felt warm and inviting, and all the staff were lovely and really helpful. I’d come back here 100%.
