I travel around Cumbria for work and didn't expect much food-wise when I stayed here. The rooms are basic and a bit dated, though clean and good enough. The food really surprised me. It's straightforward British cooking done to an amazing standard, and the lamb dish below was the best thing I've eaten on my travels. Better than the posh places in Windermere and Ambleside. Simple, unfussy food this good is rare.

We absolutely loved staying here. Our room looked down towards the harbour, the food was wonderful, and the hotel has a quaint feel. The staff were attentive, and it was lovely chatting with the young man who was born in Australia. I think he still calls Australia home, and I wish him all the best with his studies. They pour an amazing Guinness too. Highly recommend a visit.

The food here is absolutely sublime, and the lady behind the bar who served us was so attentive and friendly. We're only here for the weekend, but we'll definitely come back before we head home.

The seafood pasta was brilliant, and the Cumbrian breakfast was very good too. A nice spot right on the coast, and the room was good.

The location was good, and the one staff member we dealt with was a nice, friendly man who helped where he could. But for a £100 room rate, this was the worst hotel I've stayed in. Our top-floor room took 44 steep steps to reach. The carpet was stained, the wire hangers were cheap and old, and the bathroom had a yellow plastic mirror, cheap liquid soap and mould in the shower. The hairdryer was very old and awkward to use because its cable was so short. The towels were extremely old and grey. On the second day, the room wasn't made up, leaving us with dirty cups, unmade beds and no fresh towels. The hotel needs refurbishing, along with new bedding and towels.
