The staff we met were great, but the management should take this feedback seriously. We stayed six nights in the Coach House as a family and paid over £2.6K, more than £430 a night. I was very disappointed, and wouldn’t recommend the hotel. The website makes it look amazing, but it felt like mutton dressed as lamb. The beds were comfortable, and the view from the main 'King' bedroom was spectacular apart from the scaffolding. Parking, though, was severely limited. The wardrobes were basically rails with a few broken hangers, as if salvaged from a local tip. Kitchen facilities were very poor: the lower oven didn’t seem to work, there was no dishwasher, the washing machine was disgustingly filthy, and the dryer didn’t dry anything. In the main bedroom en-suite, the shower was coming away from the wall and the toilet-roll dispenser was barely attached. The lounge had a beautiful baby grand piano, which was one reason we chose the six berth option over the four berth, but it was unusable, with many keys not working and badly out of tune. The sofas were tired and very uncomfortable, and the place was full of random shabby-chic furniture that seemed pointless and like an afterthought. Breakfast was inconsistent. Sometimes there was bacon and sometimes there wasn’t. There was no sourdough for toast, and the limited continental selection was chopped melon, yoghurt, and tiny pastries, with no cheeses or cured meats. We also had to wait several times for glasses, bread, and pastries to be replenished. The tea was basic Tetley Tea, even though the bathroom amenities were L'Occitane.

Erica at Reception was the highlight. She helped us find a place to try "English Pub Food" and suggested useful sightseeing destinations. She’s exactly the sort of person you want welcoming guests. We had a perfect stay, and the breakfast was scrumptious!

We paid £220 per night, and I’d suggest staying elsewhere if getting a good night’s sleep matters to you. I stayed in June 2025, and this is a delayed review. Our room was Eleri, on the Lodge’s top floor. The water system is directly above it, so showers, taps, and toilets anywhere in the building made a surprisingly loud flow of water audible in the room. There’s no air conditioning either. Doors have no soft closers, so they bang constantly as people move around. Soundproofing between rooms is poor: I could easily hear a conversation in both the room below and the adjoining room. These problems made for a disturbed night, and they outweigh the other issues for me. The property is also in poor repair. I’ve owned a Grade 2 listed Tudor Thatch property, so I know what maintaining a period building takes. This place hasn’t had the effort or money it needs. Past reviews raised these issues three years ago, and the hotel said planned work was underway. If management replies to this review with the same claim and no date for resolving the problems, take that as meaning no remedial work has been done. You’ve been warned. The restaurant is good, but expensive at £70 per person for three courses, drinks not included. The gardens have a nice layout but are poorly maintained. Staff attention was poor, and getting drinks during the day took a long time. The main hotel has some nice period features, but its many small rooms and stairs make it a maze, which reflects its origins as a listed private home rather than an ideal hotel layout. I also suspect management responds to critical reviews by posting two or three positive ones immediately afterwards. Let’s see if that happens again.

The room in the main chateau was spacious and pleasant, and we had a brilliant stay. Breakfast was good each morning, and the staff were fantastic. The one problem was the shower design: there’s no door, so water floods the bathroom. Otherwise, it was perfect.

Elin, our wedding coordinator, made the whole day feel easy and magical. She went above and beyond, and everything ran smoothly. We had our wedding at Château Rhianfa in June, and it was truly a perfect day in a stunning venue that felt like a real-life fairytale. Our guests kept saying how lovely the staff were and how beautiful the place was. We couldn’t have asked for more, and we’ll treasure the day forever.
