The first day at the restaurant was great, with a 10/10 breakfast, dinner, and service. The next morning, though, we found hair in our breakfast, which was replaced, and at dinner the waitress tried to take my plate twice. I eat slowly, sorry! We’d come from Portsmouth for a spa weekend my partner gave me for my 40th, and the spa treatment was the biggest letdown. The spa and hotel seem to operate like separate businesses. We were 10 minutes late, and on the phone I was told I couldn’t have my manicure and would be charged an £87 cancellation fee. Given the hotel’s other mistakes, we thought they might waive it. There were also two errors on our bill at checkout. The room was nice, but too warm, and we found hair in the bathtub. The building is old, which can’t be helped, but the creaking floor from other guests kept us from sleeping well. Sadly, we won’t return.

The staff really look after you, and we loved the traditional feel and values of this historic hotel. The spa was lovely too. We can’t wait to come back and try the outdoor space attached to it. Every part of the hotel deserves five stars.

The afternoon tea was delicious, and nobody rushed us. Everyone was helpful and accommodating. We had plenty of time to enjoy the facilities on a quiet Monday afternoon: the indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, and spa were all very nice. We started with a really relaxing massage that was expertly applied as part of the Vintage Afternoon Tea and Treatment for Two at the Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa. We’d definitely recommend it and would like to visit again.

The history of The Spread Eagle made the whole experience feel even more magical. I was treated like a Queen in the Queen’s suite by the most wonderful staff, and the food was absolutely incredible. We had so much fun. It was a privilege to enjoy it. Thank you! I’ve been meaning to write this since October.

We brought our dogs along for walks in the south downs, and they were made very welcome. My wife and I stayed for a few days and found the hotel relaxed and beguiling, with real charm. The food was excellent. A very welcoming, relaxing place to stay, and I can highly recommend it.
