The manager barely let me explain what happened, and the other man was treated as more credible because he was a regular who spent money there. I was blamed for someone else shouting something unkind, then told I’d had too much to drink. The small blonde staff member later said we could have gone back in if someone hadn’t sworn at us, but that wasn’t anyone in our group, and again nobody listened. It started when a man said he’d paid for the pool table, took my vape, and refused to give it back. When I asked for it, he got in my face and threatened to smash my teeth and face. Security came over, but I was dragged outside and told to wait while they checked CCTV. They never did. The man came outside and threatened me again; when my mum stepped in, the manager simply walked away. Disgusting, unprofessional behaviour. They seemed more interested in keeping a paying regular happy than making women feel safe. I’d strongly suggest staying away.

The people running the place were lovely, and the location made it easy to walk into the centre and reach local amenities. I’d recommend it and stay again. My single room had a wash basin but no en-suite. There’s a separate lounge and breakfast room, and the continental breakfast had a good range: cereals, orange juice, filter coffee made to order, scrambled eggs and toast. Everything was very clean, and parking was easy with free timed street spaces out front and private parking behind. I stayed twice, in rooms 2 and 3. If I’m being fussy, they could use a bit of basic maintenance: the mirror was cracked and a wall stained in room 2, and there was a stain on the ceiling in room 3.

Maggie, the guest house manager, was welcoming, helpful and professional. The room was exceptionally well presented, and there was on-site parking.

The owners are really nice, and the rooms are very clean. I’ve stayed here twice now and would happily come back.

A handy, cheap B&B for a quick overnight stop on the way to the Lake District. The room was clean, staff pleasant, check-in was hassle-free, and there was plenty of parking. Great spot for finding food and a drink.
