For the price, this worked well as a base for exploring, with the Main Street close by and the central train station about a ten-minute walk away. I stayed two nights with a friend. The beds were comfortable enough, though the pillows were very thin. The shower was small and had no detachable head, and the toilet paper was thin too. There’s a very small lift if you’re bringing a lot of luggage. One annoyance was the room door rattling in its frame whenever someone came along the corridor.

The location is brilliant and the staff were really nice, but I wouldn’t book the “deluxe” room again. There was hair and grime around the toilet and toilet roll, dirty rings on the bathroom counter, and a fairly large hole in the wall by the bed. Not sure why it was there, but it looked like mice could get in and out. The room design was odd too. The bedroom mirror was so high that I couldn’t see into it properly, even at 5'10". I slept badly after guests started screaming in the hall at 4:30 a.m. and carried on until 6. I couldn’t see a phone in the room, so had no way to contact reception about the aggressive, noisy behavior. Sorry, but I won’t stay here again.

Clean enough, and the staff were nice, but the place feels like a two-star hotel dressed up as a three-star one in the name of being eco-friendly. The mattress was hard, with just one pillow each when sharing. There were no glasses, hairdryer, or kettle in the room, and the TV remote didn’t work. From their reaction at checkout, I clearly wasn’t the first person to report it. A 10 a.m. checkout is a joke too.

The weekly alarm test at 7:30 on Wednesday morning was ridiculous. Do it later in the day, when people aren’t trying to sleep. Checkout at 10 a.m. was poor as well, especially when the Travelodge around the corner lets you stay until noon. The room was cold, the heating didn’t work, the duvet was thin, and the mattress was very firm. There was no kettle either. The location is great and the rooms are clean, but they’re so basic there isn’t much to clean. Compared with other hotels nearby, this one was disappointing.

San made my stay at Easy Hotel Newcastle a really good one. From the moment I arrived, she was caring and helpful, and made sure I felt welcome and comfortable. She also offered me a very nice room, which made the visit better. Her kindness and friendly manner stood out, and she clearly takes pride in looking after guests. Sanjala’s service made everything smooth and enjoyable. I’d gladly stay again and recommend the hotel, especially because of her.
