We had a lovely room overlooking the river, and the hotel has some beautiful places to relax and meet other travellers. The manager was friendly and kindly took photos for our special occasion. The restaurant manager also decorated our table with the things I’d brought. Food in the bar and restaurant was tasty and nicely presented, though a little pricey. Breakfast was very good, with lots of choice and plenty of staff to help. I especially liked the coffee machine. The car park was easy to get to and reasonably priced. We didn’t explore the beauty areas or pool. Our deluxe room was spacious and well equipped, but it felt dated. We stayed here eight years ago and it was already looking tired then. The seating in the bar lounge was grubby and badly needed cleaning. The other two couples in our party said their beds were uncomfortable, and they couldn’t sleep because neighbours upstairs were banging doors and floors.

Libby on reception was so friendly and helpful, and we had a great chat. The hotel and staff were lovely. I’d definitely stay again, and would recommend it if you’re looking for somewhere outside Newcastle city centre.

Breakfast was the only part that let me down a little. I wasn’t offered coffee or water, and it seemed male guests were given better seating and offered the best spots. The reception, gym, and room service were all 5/5. I was frazzled after my journey, so I really appreciated how well I was looked after at check-in. After I ordered room service, they called to ask about allergies and whether the timing worked for me, all in a warm, caring way. I used the gym and pool twice, and staff were great at helping me get set up.

I’d booked the wrong room by mistake, without a river view, but the staff switched us to another one without any fuss. They were brilliant. The room was the nicest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. We were there for one night as a birthday treat, and I’d definitely recommend it and stay again when I’m next in Newcastle. Thank you.
