We came down from Telford for a three-day winter break, and Mill End was a lovely place to spend it. From the moment we arrived, Brady greeted us warmly and showed us to the Tavy room, which was spacious and looked out over the front garden. We settled in before having our welcome drink. The room had comfortable twin beds, a walk-in wardrobe, a fridge, and an ensuite with a shower over the bath. There were Templespa products for hands, hair and body, which you could buy at reception. I meant to get some body lotion but got distracted. The drinks selection was good, with bottled water each day, milk in the fridge and homemade biscuits. The food was a real highlight. Will's menus and cooking were so good they could hold their own against Michelin-starred restaurants we've eaten at. I tried soup, fish and meat, all tasty and cooked and seasoned just right. I'd never had aubergine and garlic soup before; it was smooth and delicious, and I came away with the ingredients for the recipe so I can make it. Desserts were lovely too, and just the right size after two courses. Breakfast had cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries, granola, juices and a huge range of hot dishes. I love poached eggs, so I was pleased to see Eggs Royale and Eggs Florentine. Each came with two eggs, though, so after the first morning I asked for one. I've switched to Florentine over Royale now. My husband had the cooked English breakfast and enjoyed it. We also had afternoon tea on our last day. There was a great selection, including a standout caramelised onion quiche, very light scones that were the best we've had, and an assortment of homemade cakes. Everyone we met on staff was friendly and charming. They kept the log burner going in the cosy, beautifully furnished lounge. I'm not a dog lover, after being attacked by a dog both on and off its lead, but the dogs seemed well catered for and behaved in the public areas. As we left, we were given a goodbye bag with water, truffles, a pen and a notepad. That was such a thoughtful extra. A tremendous thank you to all the staff, seen and unseen, for a wonderful winter break.

A lovely short stay. The room was cosy and comfortable, the welcome from staff was attentive and helpful, and the food was on another level. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place.

This was our fifth stay, and another relaxing break. Peter and the whole team were friendly and helpful, and the food was fabulous. Everyone was charming and on point, from restaurant service to lighting the Woodburner while we read in the lounge. Already looking forward to coming back.

My partner paid over £500 upfront for a two-night booking this week. Last weekend, her father suddenly became seriously ill, was admitted to hospital and needed emergency surgery. He is due to be discharged on the first day of our stay, and his wife is recovering from a recent stroke, so my partner will be his main carer. The Mill End has shown no sympathy. We left messages on their answering phone and got no response. When we spoke to them today, they said the terms and conditions were clear and they had no flexibility. This is the full booking amount, not just a deposit, and even after we asked, they did not offer a credit note for another time. After this experience, I would avoid the place and wouldn't take a special offer or pay for a booking in full in advance. They showed no care or understanding when we had an emergency.

We had a fantastic night at this stunning hotel in beautiful countryside. The staff made us feel very welcome, and the food was outstanding. Our evening meal was one of the best we've had, and it was presented beautifully. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We were sorry to leave and will definitely come back sometime.
