The Highlander Hotel

The room was clean, and room service emptied the bins and made the beds. The hotel is in an excellent location, but it has seen better days. The rooms are dated, with an old wall mounted electric radiator that looked somewhat dangerous. The bathroom had been updated, though the shower didn’t drain properly and the shampoo bottle was empty. We tried dinner on the first night, then decided against breakfast. I’d recommend avoiding the restaurant at all costs: it seemed as though there were no chefs working, and the food looked microwaved from a packet, with no imagination or presentation. In my opinion, the price doesn’t match the quality. The place needs serious refurbishment and a team of chefs.

We had our carers group Christmas party night here, and the organisers were really efficient. The meals arrived piping hot and were delicious, and breakfast was just as hot and tasty. There were plenty of drinks, served by friendly staff, and the music soon had us out on the floor strutting our stuff. The hotel felt lovely and cosy, with beautiful Christmas decorations throughout the public areas. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Newtonmore. The town is small but interesting, with fantastic countryside around it, and the hotel is just off a main route. We found parking and access easy. The rooms were warm, cosy and clean, and very good value. Reception and the breakfast waiting staff were friendly and professional. Dogs are allowed at no extra cost. Thank you.

We had a marvellous Christmas, with good food and plenty of it. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive, and the gifts from the hotel were very acceptable. We enjoyed the pipers, Santa Claus Tractor Parade, pantomime visit and evening entertainers. When the last entertainer came down with flu, the staff rallied around and organised a disco at the last minute. Well done to everyone involved in our stay.
