The food itself is pretty good, and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. But on busy evenings the service is painfully slow, and my wife and I have decided not to eat there again. It seems to cope only when it's very quiet midweek, with no more than 20% of tables occupied. On busy nights we've seen just two servers, one of them the manager, covering two dozen or more tables. On our first busy visit we had to chase our order twice, and heard other tables complaining too. On our second, last night on Valentine's Day, we'd booked for 7pm. After 2 hours 35 minutes we'd had only our starter and main. We chased the dessert three times, then left without it. The manager asked us to be patient and said it was on its way, as we'd been told half an hour earlier. At 9:35pm, we explained that it was too late for sweet, sugary desserts, even if it arrived then. We'd booked a 7pm table, not an 8pm one. It's a shame, because the food is good and the understaffing takes the shine off what could be a great night out. The hotel is nice enough, but the rooms are basic. We stayed in what they called the “best room in the hotel”, and it had no fridge for drinks, table for reading or cards, coat hook on the bedroom door, or coat stand. At £180 per night, I think those basics should be included.

The massage was incredible and exactly what I needed. It didn't feel rushed at all, though I wish I could've stayed a few more hours in the clean, calming spa. The building is beautiful and full of character, and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. I haven't stayed overnight or eaten here, but I'd like to try those things next time. Can't wait to come back!

The French Partridge made arrival and departure easy, with a spacious, well-kept gravel car park. We didn't use the lounge, but it looked inviting, with period-style decor that suited this charming boutique hotel. We had dinner in the bar, where the atmosphere was relaxed and the menu had a good selection. The staff were very amenable. Our deluxe junior suite was beautiful and well appointed, and the freestanding roll-top bath was a lovely bonus.

The rooms and furnishings, cleanliness, bar, plush comfort, and captivating atmosphere all made this a flawless 10/10 experience. The food and service were exceptional, and the place has the elegance and character of a real haven. Antique touches and timeless sophistication come together beautifully here. It would be a perfect setting for a special celebration, with luxury, charm, and convenience all in one.

We celebrated my mum's birthday over dinner at The French Partridge last night, and every dish was spot on, beautifully presented and full of flavour. The service was warm and attentive and made the evening feel special. Lovely atmosphere and real care in the details. We'll definitely be back, highly recommended!
