I’ve stayed here regularly for business, so it’s disappointing to report that this visit fell short of what I expect from Greene King properties. In Room 19, there appeared to be blood stains on the bedding, which was concerning. Room 2 was extremely hot, as if the heating were stuck on maximum, and uncomfortable to sleep in. I appreciated being moved to another room. There was no working Wi-Fi, which made it hard to work while travelling for business. The manager was disrespectful and dismissive. I was also unhappy with how the refund request through Agoda was handled later, as the explanation didn’t reflect my experience. The invoice amount also differed from what I was charged, and I hope they can clarify that. I’m sharing this in the hope the issues are addressed, since the location is otherwise convenient for business travel.

The chicken burger was watery and a little pink. I also found a hair in my food. The 'premium wagyu' burger was dry, overcooked and definitely didn’t seem premium. They didn’t offer any sauce, and the coleslaw was just a teaspoonful, cheap, watery and shop bought. This place has gone downhill.

My Festive lunch booking on Christmas Eve was changed to a normal pub booking, and I’d hate for anyone else to have the same experience on a special occasion. I booked the £30 Festive lunch by email, received confirmation in November, then phoned in December to check because the email mentioned a £10 per head deposit. The staff member confirmed the booking and said I’d be emailed two weeks beforehand if a deposit was needed. She told me not to worry, as I was booked for the Christmas offer menu. On the day, I wasn’t booked for the Festive offer, just the regular menu. The server assured us when we arrived that we could still have the Festive menu. I explained at the table that I’d called to confirm and asked about the deposit. But at the payment desk, I was told I had to pay full price, which was a lot more, and the food wasn’t worth it. The meal was very average, with two tiny pieces of Brie for a starter, tough turkey and too little food for the money. The man who took payment, who I assumed was the manager, gave appalling customer service. He wouldn’t listen or help, and other staff watched without supporting me, including the server who had said we could have the offer. I felt made to look like a liar. My original confirmation email had been changed from a Festive booking to a normal pub booking. The whole experience was awful, the worst I’ve had in a restaurant or anywhere. Avoid booking here, and take a screenshot of your email confirmation.

The food was freshly made and outstanding. I ordered Chicken Liver Pate, then The Wagu Burger with Stilton, Mushrooms and Bacon, and finished with Apple Crumble. A really nice place to stay, with an excellent welcome.
