This was my third visit this year, and I’ll be back more often. I only discovered Oban in the past year. I first came some years ago with a good friend who has since passed away, and I wanted to return and see what we missed. Back then we were off work and came to have a good time, relax and enjoy ourselves. I’m here in Oban until Wednesday in memory of my friend. The mutha queen is a clean, comfortable and cosy place to stay. Oban is also great for eating out, with plenty of good places that are easy to find and check reviews for. Please avoid kebab grillz at the start of the street by Morrisons. I ordered chicken tikka kebab and saw them microwave the chicken. It was absolutely atrocious, and the server had a terrible attitude when he realised I’d seen him do it. Apart from that, I LOVE OBAN WITH A PASSION.

My room was very clean and comfortable, with a terrific view of Oban Harbour. It’s a lovely old hotel, and they replaced the towels each day along with the tea and coffee, which was nice, though I didn’t need the towels changed so often. The young man on Reception who helped me several times was wonderful.

The rooms were large, but the restaurant wasn’t open and there was no bar. Neither fact had been mentioned when booking. We were allowed to bring food in, but the restaurant was freezing. There was no staff at check-out, and two of the three room windows wouldn’t open, which felt like a safety issue. There was no disabled access.

It’s about a 15-minute walk into town, and the room was adequate. Service was great. Vanessa was very accommodating and answered all my questions about laundry, internet service and other things.

It’s okay, but that’s about it. The place feels very tired, and there are no restaurant facilities in the building now, though it looks like there used to be. For breakfast or dinner, you have to walk five minutes to the other Muthu hotel, and honestly, the food isn’t worth the walk. I was here for work. If I’d been staying for pleasure, I probably wouldn’t come back.
