The Kelvin Hotel

Really good service and rooms, and the staff were lovely. The building is a little dated, but the beds were super comfortable and everything was very clean. We had a great view over the ferry terminal, though it gets noisy, which could bother anyone hoping to sleep past 08.30. Still, we had a good stay.

The owner was so understanding when I mentioned my grandson’s special dietary needs, and even offered to cook for him if needed. We had a very friendly welcome, and the room was clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was reasonably priced with a good selection. It’s a short walk to the promenade, railway station and ferry port. Thanks so much, we’d definitely stay again.

I’m already thinking about another visit. The location’s ideal, with the harbor and downtown an easy walk away, and the guest rooms have been updated recently. Mine had a kitchenette with a microwave, toaster and fridge. Just keep in mind there’s no elevator, and the ferry terminal across the way brings some noise after 8 AM. The personal welcome made this feel different from a faceless online booking. The proprietor was warm and attentive, with suggestions for local food, live music, parking and things to do around town. She lent me an umbrella when I’d forgotten mine, and even made French press coffee when the breakfast lounge machine stopped working.

Easy to walk into town and close to the promenade. The hotel has a bar and restaurant for breakfast, and the ferry port for island trips is nearby. Lovely place in a great spot.
