The lake view from our room made morning and evening coffee a treat, and the setting was beautiful. We came for a relaxing birthday break for my partner, and the spa was peaceful for a couple of hours. She said her hot stone massage was perfect. Dinner was excellent, with lovely food and helpful staff in both the hotel and spa. Breakfast was enormous, with continental options and a full vegetarian breakfast, just right before a day of walking. The price was very good too, and we’d come back.

We’d happily return. The pub on the grounds was a lovely place to finish a day of walking and exploring with a drink by the open fire. Our lake-facing room was peaceful, especially sitting with a coffee and looking out at the view. The room felt a little dated, but it suited the hotel and gave it some character. We came for my partner’s birthday, and the location was beautiful. Staff at the hotel and spa were polite and incredibly helpful. Dinner was great, including the cheeky cocktails, and breakfast had generous portions and lots of choice for a day out in the surrounding nature. The spa was quiet and relaxing, too.

The room and the special touches made the surprise weekend feel lovely. My partner booked a superior Lake view room for St dwynwens weekend, with champagne, balloons, locally made chocolate and truffles. Dinner, the staff, the service and the location were all incredible, 10/10. It was dark during dinner, so we couldn’t enjoy the view then, but breakfast in the same room was magical, with mist over the lake. The main drawback was the spa. We had booked a two-hour slot before our treatments, but it felt crowded, with around 10 people and seating for only six: two padded loungers and four tepidtarium couches. Guests occupied them for the whole slot reading or chatting, and towels or other belongings were sometimes left on seats even when people had gone for treatments or to use the facilities. It would help to limit numbers per slot or ask guests to store belongings in the lockers or hang them on the provided hooks when not using a seat. If you want to relax there, arriving as early as possible seems wise. The hotel is a bit dated, though that adds character and seems reflected in the room prices. There is a lift, but it is marked for employees or disabled guests only. For disabled guests staying on floors 1 or 2, it leads directly to the spa, so reaching the main hotel or restaurant means going through the spa. That could be awkward if you are not booked in or it is closed. It’s an older building, so this is something to consider when booking, especially since many rooms, including balcony rooms, are on the first and second floors.

The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food was a highlight throughout our weekend. Meals were delicious and well prepared, and the cozy pub was a nice place for a drink or a casual bite. The hotel has a distinctive charm, set on a slope right above the lake, with spectacular views at sunrise and sunset. It does show its age in places, but that added to the character and didn’t spoil our stay. We’d be happy to return for another relaxing weekend in such a scenic spot.

We booked at the last minute on Friday for the family, including our three-year-old and our dog, and everything was so easy and welcoming. Booking, check-in, and arranging dinner and breakfast all went smoothly. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable, with good heating, water and shower. Dinner on arrival was fine dining at its best, and the food was overwhelmingly good. Breakfast offered loads of hot and cold choices, so there was nothing we wanted that was missing. Staff gave us helpful, informative suggestions for nearby places to see. Check-out was just as smooth, and there was ample parking. We’d love to return soon.
