A pleasant stay, with friendly staff and a wonderful massage at the spa. The rooms are basic but nice; ours looked over the canal and had a small balcony. It was scorching, so we had to turn down the heating, and the TV was set to radio stations only until we retuned it. The restaurant pizzas were good. One sauna was out of use while we were there, though the spa itself was nice.

The room felt worn and neglected. There was a beer can being used as an ashtray on the balcony, holes in the headboard, and pillows that were flat and dirty. Check-in was just a key handed over with no explanation of breakfast times, restaurant locations, or even where the gym was. I’m used to the Parkway Hotel in Wales, which is fantastic by comparison. With more care and attention, this place could be much better.

We had a good time overall, but the hotel’s housekeeping standards need a significant lift, especially in the rooms. Our bathrooms needed a deep clean and were quite dirty in places, particularly around the showers. In the restaurant, the tables felt sticky and the chairs were stained. The bar worked well if you like shorts, though its draught beer choices were limited. We weren’t told beforehand it was card only, which was inconvenient since our family usually uses a “kitty.” We stayed overnight on 7/12/25 for our traditional family Christmas get-together, having last visited many years ago and enjoyed it. The location is lovely, easy to find, in the countryside beside the canal. It looked as though the hotel had been redecorated recently, and the rooms and public areas seemed light and airy. The evening meal and breakfast were both very good, with a decent choice and food that was well cooked and presented.
