Travelodge Peterborough Eye Green

We asked for a downstairs room because we had two dogs, but were put upstairs. The staff weren't very friendly once they saw the dogs. Traffic noise was bad late at night and early in the morning, and the room felt old and worn. The bed wasn't great either, I kept waking up every hour.

A petrol station, McDonald's, Greggs and Starbucks are all on site, which made it easy to grab breakfast and coffee before driving on. For the price, the room was passable for a short stop, especially with local prices being what they are, but we wouldn't come back. It was very warm, with no air conditioning. A small fan had been left running, but it only moved warm air around. The room was about 25°C during the day and 12°C at night. The walls need attention, plaster is coming away, grout is missing, and the bathroom is basic.

There was no phone signal at all inside. The room itself was clean, the bed was comfortable and the TV worked, but there were no USB sockets like in other Travelodges. It was noisy too, with the main road alongside the building, traffic passing and lorries idling below the window. Although it was only 14 degrees outside on a mild September day, the room was so warm we had the window open all night. The battered, dust-filled fan was barely balanced on the sill. They seem to know the rooms get hot, since all the windows were open and the heaters unplugged.

Booked on the day and still got a reasonable rate. The room was clean, everything worked, and it wasn't particularly noisy. Staff were friendly.
