The hotel was clean, comfortable and well maintained. Getting there can be difficult if you don’t drive, because public transport options are limited. Having a car would make the stay much easier.

The room was huge and really comfortable, and breakfast was more than adequate. I was thoroughly impressed 🤩. It’s also very close to a lovely walk at Farlington Marshes nature reserve 🍃. There aren’t many shops or bars around, sadly. I’m pleased to say the hotel doesn’t seem to be used to house asylum seekers 😊💙. I’d stay at a Holiday Inn Express again 👍

The public transport situation isn’t ideal from this spot north of Portsmouth city centre, so you’ll need a taxi or bus to get into town. The décor is standard chain hotel style and lacks distinctive character, and the free Wi-Fi slowed down at busy times. Still, it’s a clean, dependable and comfortable base, especially if you’re driving. The M27 is easy to reach, there’s plenty of free parking on site, and both the Historic Dockyard and Gunwharf Quays are a short drive away. The rooms were spotless and well kept, with comfortable beds, working air conditioning and effective blackout curtains. Complimentary breakfast exceeded my expectations, with a decent choice of hot food, fresh fruit and pastries. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and check-in and checkout were smooth and efficient. It delivers what I’d expect from Holiday Inn Express: straightforward accommodation without unnecessary frills. I’d choose it for value, cleanliness and convenience over luxury, particularly as a business traveller or family base. It won’t impress with boutique details, but it reliably does what it promises.

The shower pressure was weak, though the breakfast selection was decent and even included a fun pancake maker. You do have to pay for parking, but they give you a 50% discount code. Good value overall, with modern, stylish rooms and plenty of space.
