Keppel's Head Hotel

The rooms are clean and spacious, and the staff are very polite and helpful. The wooden floors creak when people in the rooms above move around, but otherwise I can’t fault the hotel. There’s free parking for guests, and the location is great, opposite the train and bus station, with plenty of shopping malls and restaurants nearby.

My room was on the small side, but that’s to be expected in the heart of the city, where space is limited. It was clean to a high standard and had everything I needed. The staff were extremely helpful, and the bar is nicely decorated with nautical details. Guests can have a drink there whenever they like. The hotel is close to the ferry, main bus and train stations, Gunwharf Quay shopping complex and the royal navy museum. There’s car parking and access at all hours, although at night you need a member of staff to open the locked gates. I can’t comment on the food, though it’s available and smelled delicious. It was a nice stay, and the staff did everything I could have asked for.

Our double room was the cheapest offer on Booking.com, at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park. It was very clean, with a good-sized bathroom and shower. Breakfast was nicely cooked and good value at £9. Nothing fancy, but adequate, with unlimited coffee, juice and toast. The lift was handy, and the hotel is well located near the station. We had a concert at the Guildhall and could get a taxi or Uber for £7. The staff were friendly too.

The breakfast was top notch, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a little dated, but clean, tidy and had everything needed. It was very reasonably priced, and I’d definitely return. The location is fantastic, just across the road from the bus station, train station and Gunwharf Quays.
