Portsmouth Budget Hotels

The shower was SUPER hot. I came out looking like a cooked lobster. The deposit seemed a bit intimidating, but I got my money back without any hassle. For a quick trip, this does what it says on the tin: a budget place to stay. The room was clean, despite what other reviews say, and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The location worked well for me, with every place I needed to visit only a 10-minute walk away.

There are serious problems with the door locks, including the main entrance, room doors and bathroom doors. In room 33, we spent five minutes trying to get the locked door open before calling staff. He told us we had to push harder. In room 43, my friend was trapped inside the bathroom for 30 minutes until staff came and unlocked it from outside. At 4.00 am, a stranger in a bathrobe kept trying to unlock our room 33 door. When we opened it, she said she was looking for a toilet. Why was she trying our door instead of asking staff? It was disturbing and left us feeling very unsafe. The heating has been a problem on both of my visits. I had the same issue in 2022, and this time the radiators weren't working either. We had to call staff to turn them on, and they kept explaining why they were off and why they wouldn't turn on.

The room was really clean, with tea and coffee and nice linen. It had everything you'd want for a little hotel room for the night. Getting the key card was easy too: they gave us a code to open a box.

It's a very basic room, and there are no staff on site, so entry is by code. It was zero degrees outside during my stay, but the heating couldn't keep up. There was only a duvet on the bed, no extra blankets. At least the place was clean and well kept.
