Portsmouth Marriott Hotel

I found the rates very reasonable for a stay that feels comfortable and quiet. It's an easy place to recommend if you're after somewhere cozy and peaceful. From the moment you arrive, the people are friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is homey, and both the rooms and common areas seem well cared for. It's calm enough to relax without unnecessary noise or distractions, which made it easy to feel at home.

The hotel is ideally placed for the UK-Spain ferry, with ample parking and spacious, clean, comfortable rooms. The staff I dealt with face to face were excellent: friendly, helpful and professional. The accommodation and bar were very good, and the rest of my stay was excellent. I'd happily stay at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel again, though I wouldn't eat at the restaurant. I took one star off because the evening meal was disappointing. I politely, and even apologetically, sent back fish that smelled off. The server was attentive and helpful, but I was told the kitchen staff had taken it badly and questioned my decision behind the scenes. I wasn't charged for the dish, but as a paying guest I didn't expect my judgement to be challenged for refusing something I thought could risk my health. I was hungry after a long trip and didn't want to search for another place to eat, so I ordered curry instead. It was okay, nothing special. The meal was already at higher than usual prices because it was a hotel, and I also paid £30 for a bottle of wine that can be bought in Spain for less than €10. That markup was my choice, but I still expected better quality. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

A special thank you to the reception staff member who took such good care of me during my four-day stay at the Marriott after an operation. I think his name was Jack, and he deserves a pay rise. The hotel was clean and spacious, and the staff were great. I was in room 620. I'd seriously recommend it to anyone staying locally. Thanks again.

September 2025: I spent one night here and was happy with the stay. The room was a little dated, but the soaking tub was nice and wasn't too bad. I had lunch and dinner at the downstairs bar, and the restaurant was nice. The bed was quite hard, which seemed unusual for a Marriott. It wasn't completely uncomfortable, just not plush or luxurious. The pillows were good.
