We ended up leaving without eating. The sparkling water had a cobweb on its cap, and after a few sips it tasted stale. Checking the bottle, we saw it was best before 2019, seven years out of date. That points to a serious problem with stock rotation and basic date checks. We’d stopped by today after looking online for somewhere to eat nearby. The sunshine and reviews of the beer garden sounded promising, but we had to find staff ourselves, then walked through an unattended bar into a garden with laundry hanging on a washing line. The menu didn’t appeal much, so we only ordered the water. The highly praised roasts didn’t sound right for a hot sunny day.

Sheila, the landlady, welcomed us so warmly and sat us by the open fire. It made us feel cozy and relaxed. We’d come across this lovely country inn while out for a drive, and the whole meal was excellent. The turkey was cooked just right, with a good variety of vegetables. The roasts were reduced from £18.95 to £10 for January, though the food was good enough that we’d have paid full price. There’s a beautiful conservatory, a large garden that can accommodate children, and a recently renovated dining lounge with two fires. We had a fantastic time, 10/10, highly recommend.

Shirley and her niece are so kind and friendly, and the food is delicious. The place feels relaxing, the service is personal, and being here is a bit like being welcomed into someone’s home. We’ve been coming for years and plan to keep coming for many more.

We came for breakfast after a party and had the pleasure of meeting Shiela and her team. They were so warm and welcoming. There are plenty of struggling pubs in the UK that could learn from people like them.

Stopped in for a drink and was abruptly told by a grey-haired woman that I’d have to pay to use the toilet. I was five months pregnant and really needed to go. Absolutely disgusting.
