Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch with my parents. The food came hot and was delicious, and the service was friendly without rushing us. It’s Cask Marque accredited, with two beers on offer.

Paris helped us out, Cody was behind the bar, Lee was cooking, and all the staff made everyone feel welcome. The Birley Arms was recommended to us, and we’d pass that recommendation on. It’s dog friendly, has a kids’ play area, heated outdoor spaces, and a warm, welcoming inside. Everything was clean and tidy. There’s plenty of parking, including lots of flat gravel spots around the side where campers can park and hook up if needed. About 15 vans were there enjoying the atmosphere. Water, toilets and showers are available at good prices. The food is great and well priced, as are the drinks, with a good choice. The staff are kind, friendly and helpful. Happy New Year to you all 👍

We had a light lunch and breakfast the next morning, and both were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We were given an upgrade for our overnight stay for a party near Lytham. The room was lovely and spacious, with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom was enormous, with a roll top bath and a wet room type shower.

The two Sunday dinners were lovely and we enjoyed them, but the service was disappointing. We waited over 25 minutes for food despite only four couples dining. My wife’s meal arrived first, but mine had been put on the computer and immediately voided, so hers was taken back to the kitchen while we waited another five minutes. Earlier, her request for a Rose with a splash of lemonade came as a bottle of Rose flavoured lemonade with a splash of lemonade in a glass. The barperson fixed that. Nobody checked how the food was, and it took ages for someone to clear the two occupied tables. We gave up on dessert. At the end I was charged for the wine because the Rose flavoured lemonade had been included in the meal deal. We’d come to a very quiet Birley Arms for Sunday tea. A lovely roast, but a frustrating visit.

The staff were great, and the chef really knows how to fry an egg. Sausage and bacon were excellent, and the pie had a lovely flavour, though the pastry crust was so hard it needed a hammer. Even the delicious gravy wouldn’t soften it, and some local veg would have been nice. We stayed in a very clean ground floor outside room with good bedding and a clean bathroom and good shower. The pub and people were lovely, and service was generally great. The furniture and carpet could use an update, and the mustard coloured walls were strange, but neither affected my stay. I’d definitely book again.
