Carlton Hotel

The meal itself was good, but the service from our waitress Rachel was appalling. She had a horrible attitude and made me feel like an inconvenience. I’ve never had such terrible service, and it stuck with me enough that I still remember her name. I hope she’s left or been fired, because this job doesn’t suit her and her behaviour does the hotel a disservice.

I've stayed here a couple of times and had a great time both times. We got a great deal on dinner, bed and breakfast for an overnight stay. The rooms are lovely, dinner was spot on, and the staff make you feel that nothing is too much trouble. Can't wait to come back again!

I’d been here a few weeks earlier and the food and portions were fantastic, but this dinner was a letdown. We came for our nephew’s birthday, and while most of the food was nice, portion sizes were inconsistent and several things were off. The kitchen seemed to struggle with our table of 12. The fajitas had been sitting too long and weren’t sizzling anymore. The kids were told to watch their fingers with the warm plates of cheesy nachos, which seems wrong for finger food. The worst part was our son’s chicken strips with mash. He asked for no veg, but the chicken looked awful and was overcooked, basically inedible. He didn’t want help cutting it, and eventually told me it hurt his teeth. It certainly wasn’t because there was too much food. I told the waiter, who informed the kitchen and took it off the bill, which was good of him, but it shouldn’t have been served. For £13.50, I don’t know what age child they expected that meal to fill, and the cost wasn’t justified by how little kids eat. I’m not sure if a different chef was working, but this wasn’t up to the same standard as the Riverside.

Our room had tasteful, modern décor, and all the staff were fantastic. My husband and I stayed with two friends on the dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The dinner menu had lots of options, and my meal was delicious. The value was incredible. We’ll be back!
