On my first trip to Scotland, in 2014, I stayed at Fernbank. It was a nice place, and we had a wonderful trip in a beautiful country. But there was rarely anyone around when we needed help. Our room was upstairs, with a lot of stairs, and when we arrived the owner, who I remember as David, just watched us girls struggle to carry our luggage up. We stayed six days and saw him only once. The guy in the next room ended up sharing his towels with us. I wouldn't recommend Fernbank to anyone travelling to Prestwick, Scotland. We went back three years later and stayed in Glasgow instead, which was much better. I hope the new owners are more pleasant and helpful.

David gave us a warm welcome and was really friendly and helpful. My room was clean and comfortable, with a great ensuite shower. He even supplied unsweetened soya milk for me, though it isn't one of his usual options.

I stayed on 10th and 11th August. The room was nice and clean, and the price was good. The bathroom was clean too, but I kept bumping into the clear glass panel at the end of the shower. With no edging, it blended into the black bathroom and was hard to see. It really needs visible edging, as it was quite scary when I couldn't spot it. Breakfast was a bit dry, with mushrooms dripping in butter and bacon that was quite dry. The next day I asked for plum tomatoes and bacon, and Davied got them for me even though they're not usually served with breakfast. Overall, a good stay.

Fernbank would win if I had to choose between it and the Doubletree by Hilton in Chester, where I stayed the weekend before. That cost £190.00 a night for bed and breakfast, and honestly I couldn't see what made the extra money worthwhile. At Fernbank I had a really good night in a comfortable, clean and friendly B&B. The personal service stood out, from the warm, genuine welcome at arrival and breakfast to the email sent before I arrived with instructions in case I checked in very late. I highly recommend it to friends flying from Prestwick. My ground floor room had a patio door to the smoking area, which was wonderful.

The owners are friendly and helpful, and the place is very well run. Breakfast is great and the price very reasonable. With all the amenities close by, I can highly recommend Fernbank Guest House.
