Hilton Reading hotel

The pool was lovely, breakfast was excellent, and the restaurant was good, though the service was slow. Our king-size bed was very comfortable, the showers were great and toiletries were provided. WiFi was good and free, and the room had handy USB charging points. The TV only had Freeview, with no Netflix or way to use our own streaming service. I also had a pricing issue that I raised before check-in and again afterwards, but nobody got back to me despite promising to. The phone in our room didn’t work, and nothing was done after I reported it. The 24-hour room-service menu was poor, with just three main dishes and no desserts. There’s not enough bike storage. A rack in the car park would give guests 24-hour access, unlike the bike store that closes at 10pm. The cycle along the river into Reading centre was lovely. Day staff were great, but the evening staff weren’t as good. I would stay again.

The communal areas felt modern and had lots of natural light. Our room was clean, tidy and comfortable, and the staff were helpful throughout. Breakfast was included in our rate, which made it especially good value. We had a great stay at the Hilton Reading and will be back.

Breakfast had a fantastic layout and choice, and my daughter loved the Christmas decorations. We also really enjoyed the pool and found the staff helpful and polite. The rooms were clean and spacious. The robe sizes were the only letdown, along with the old TVs, which meant there wasn’t much to watch and no streaming. Most hotels we stay in have smart TVs. The minibar could be better too, as it only had two cans of water. Another hotel we use costs less and isn’t a big name like Hilton, but offers a lot more.

I was visiting for leisure for the first time as a team member from another Hilton, so it was interesting to see how a different hotel runs while enjoying a stay as a guest. The spa facilities were good, and my room was cosy and comfortable. The firm mattress and soft pillows worked well for me, and I slept great. Pedro at reception was polite and welcoming at check-in. The dining area had a relaxing atmosphere and lovely decor, and dinner was delicious. I’d recommend the burger with rarebit to friends. Tim and the other evening restaurant staff, along with the breakfast team, were brilliant: helpful, friendly and positive, always smiling. It was refreshing to see. Great team and a very relaxing stay. This hotel deserves five stars and is the best local option. I’ll definitely be back.
